Petropoulos Earns First Career Late Model Win at Lanier National Speedway

ATLANTA, GA (June 30, 2003) — The racing career of Peter Petropoulos of Flowery Branch, Ga. took a huge step forward Saturday night as the 24-year old driver captured his first late model win at Lanier National Speedway, a NASCAR Weekly Series short track located northeast of Atlanta.

The No. 28 Battle Builders Inc Chevrolet started on the pole and led every lap as Petropoulos topped an impressive 22-car starting field in the evening's late model feature event. Ironically, after winning three consecutive fast qualifier awards, Petropoulos was fifth-fastest Saturday night then got the pole position due to the inversion. "We were happy to get the roll of the dice to put us on the pole," said Petropoulos. "I really didn't want to win it from the pole, but I'll take it how ever I can get it." Following the win, Petropoulos credited his sponsor, Battle Paint and Drywall, engine builder Waymon Colley, and crew chief Steve Whitehead. Petropoulos said he and his team are squarely focused on the Friday July 4 100-lap late model feature at Lanier National Speedway. "I'm really looking forward to it," Petropoulos said. "I wish every race was 100 laps. I'm a little inexperienced and it gives me time to get set in, then go."
